19
19 on the nineteenth. Sounds pretty golden to me. (#goldenbday ifykyk) Turning 19 has got me wanting to write down everything I feel about it. Growing up, my birthday was never celebrated at school, as my special day landed in the middle of summer. Sometimes I would be sad about it, but then as I got older, I realized it was a blessing not to spend the day at school! Now though, part of my 19th will be spent at work. Which one is worse? You tell me. In all, having a summer birthday is my fav, since summer is my favorite season. I think having a summer birthday has earnestly contributed to my personality and being. I love all the details about the warmest season: the growth, sunshine, and energy are things I feel I embody, but after living the infamous 18th year, do I still even know who I am? Certainly not.
And unfortunately, this sunshine loving girl often feels the overwhelming weight of thoughts that demand I need to know who I am, what I want, and where I want to go right. this. minute. I can tell you I love to write about how I feel, but I still don’t have it figured out. Additionally, I don’t think I have much wisdom to offer, but I do have lessons learned. So, to say goodbye to 18, here are 19 things I’ve learned while lapping the sun…
Loving God allows you to love others better
Your parents know better
Let your yes be yes and your no be no
There’s more than what the camera shows
Good friends are like good medicine
Don’t be scared to introduce yourself
Some things won’t matter in 5 years
Let it be and be okay with what it was
Make the phone call
Go to all the concerts you can
Be yourself, fakes only last so long
Prayer always does more than you think or see
Make lots of different friends
It’s okay to love deeply
Sometimes you just need to go for a drive
Bring a change of shoes to your interviews
So many more people than you think love and see you for you
Life is delicate, yet special, and we should be thankful to live in a new day, every day
Grace upon grace is available in Jesus Christ
One day, I can’t imagine how much this list will grow. And even though I only listed 19 things, of course I’ve learned more than that, but these are just the ones that stick out to me at this point in my life. Birthdays don’t seem like as big of a deal to me as they once did, but more life means more thoughts on life from me! So, here’s to 19 on the nineteenth.
Best,
Meg
