Stress & Snow
Feeling stressed? Me too. Weighed down with commitments, assignments, work, and trying to maintain somewhat of a social life? Me too. But what is stress compared to sweet snowflakes that fall from the sky, coating the Earth in a wondrous white blanket? What is stress compared to screaming One Direction lyrics in a car with all your friends on the way to Target? What is stress compared to a cozy room with football on the TV while you’re cuddled under blankets? What is stress compared to the feeling of accomplishment you recieve from a phone call with news that you got the job? Stress isn’t inherently bad, but too much of it will distort our view of the good things in life. Stress can motivate us and tear up our insides. I have been learning that stress doesn’t have to dictate all the moments of the day. The richness of life the past few weeks has put my stress in its place. It has reminded me to take a deep breath and be where I am, whether that’s in the back of a car screaming lyrics to a song at 10 pm or in a mundane walk to class in the wet snow.
Stress eats at me most days and I let it ruin a lot of things. My own overthinking and anxieties can stress me out. In the end, will the thing stressing you out really matter THAT MUCH down the line? Sometimes it’s difficult to tell my brain to chill for a minute, but being swept up in the small things I think can help with that. Sweet texts, your morning coffee, a moment to yourself, it can all remind you to slow down. Accomplishments and responsibilities and priorities. Everyone has them, and we’re all trying our best. That due date, that presentation, that interview, it won’t be the end for you. Stress might feel inescapable. It’s not. Rest in God, not in stress. And remember the small things He blesses you with each day.
Best,
Meg
